Gale-forces winds are set to sweep across the northern half of Spain and the Canary Islands today, with tidal waves of over six metres in height. The state meteorological agency, AEMET, has announced that from roughly Madrid northwards, and most of the west of the mainland, will see wind-speeds of between 90 and 130 kilometres per hour today. The worst-hit areas will be Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Pyrénées. Gale-force ten and 11 winds will strike the north coast.
