Actually, i'd be surprised if it wasn't. Just look at the illegal wiretapping going on. I linked to this because much of it is just common computer sense and it's a good read. Everyone should be running a firewall and the built-in Windows one is garbage. If you're behind a router, disable WAN ping response as well. Some other precautions you can take: IE (Internet Explorer) - get rid of it. End of story. Same with Outlook and Outlook Express -- security hole riddled garbage. For email, try Thunderbird. For a browser, if you're a novice or just want to keep things simple, i'd highly recommend Opera. It's now completely free and is a robust, well featured browser. If you love total control, customization and configurability, Firefox is the way to go in my opinion. It picks up where IE leaves off. I would highly recommend these extensions with it: A decent anti-virus alternative to the ones mentioned in the article is ClamWin. It's anup and coming product that is totally free and open source. Each release gets better and they pump out virus definitions faster than some of the big commercial vendors. Right now it's on-demand only, so it doesn't run in the background (one of the reasons i prefer it). Research this on your own. Katrina victims lose in appeals court - Yahoo!
