The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it. -- Albert Einstein
(a) Offense.— Whoever, whether inside or outside the United States, commits a war crime, in any of the circumstances described in subsection (b), shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for life or any term of years, or both, and if death results to the victim, shall also be subject to the penalty of death.
“A guard held a shotgun to my head. ‘You are a terrorist!’ he screamed. ‘What kind of dumb stuff did you write about your treatment here?’ My hands and feet were bound, and someone kicked me from behind.“
9/11 CONTRADICTIONS by David Ray Griffin is the fifth of his books to examine the official account of the events of September 11, 2001. This brilliant and highly readable book takes a new yet simple approach to the truth about 9/11. It focuses entirely on contradictory statements made by members of the Bush administration, government departments and agencies, and official bodies such as the 9/11 Commission.
Contrary to what has been written so far in the mainstream media, Admiral William Fallon was not removed because he was opposing President Bush on an attack against Iran. He resigned from his own initiative after the agreement he had negotiated and concluded with Tehran, Moscow and Peking was sabotaged by the White House. This decision by the Bush administration will provoke renewed fighting in Iraq and exposes gravely the GI's to a new Resistance this time supported without restraints from the outside.
This form of "debt slavery" or "debt peonage" was not just an accidental development of history. It was a deliberately-planned alternative to the slave arrangement in which owners were responsible for the feeding and care of a dependent population, and it is still with us today.
So who is next? As advisers to Bear Stearns struggle to find a buyer or funding in the next 28 days, Wall Street, the City and the financial district in Tokyo were scrabbling to find out who is the most exposed to Bear Stearns, either through loans or trading positions.
"My personal opinion is that the economy is now in a recession," said Martin Feldstein, president and chief executive of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), in a speech in Boca Raton, Fla.
$1.55 on the Euro, $100 on the Yen, $1000 Gold, $110 oil. The three pillars of what we have been writing about for almost 2 years in this column are falling into place exactly as we said they would. Gold and oil up, the Dollar down.
Everybody knows that gold is an inflation hedge. That’s why most people buy it. They know from experience that the purchasing power of all national currencies is being constantly eroded by inflation. But they also know that their purchasing power is preserved by owning gold.
President Hugo Chavez dared the U.S. on Friday to put Venezuela on a list of countries accused of supporting terrorism, calling it one more attempt by Washington to undermine him for political reasons.
No wonder some people from the U.S. are moving to Venezuela. His people love him. -- ZDN
THE children in Qawala camp are grubby, bundled up in as many clothes as their parents can find to ward off wintry temperatures in the tents on a rubbish dump in northern Iraq that they now call home. They wrap their feet in plastic bags to walk through the mud to school.
As the fifth anniversary of the Iraq war approaches, a rising tide of soldiers and veterans suffering psychological injuries is being adding to the nearly 4,000 U.S. soldiers who have died in the war and the tens of thousands officially counted as physically wounded in action.
As usual, the official version was mendacious. (When the army spokesman speaks the truth, he is ashamed and immediately hurries on to the next lie.) The four, it was said, drew their weapons and endangered the life of the soldiers, who only wanted to arrest them, so they were compelled to open fire.
Anyone with half a brain knows that this is a lie.
Just as military recruiters supply the bodies for the war, the IRS supplies the funding. Just as some soldiers have the courage to resist the war, we — as tax payers — should have the courage to resist paying the taxes that send soldiers to war. We call on all war opponents to help dramatize our opposition and to disrupt business as usual by joining this nonviolent blockade.
For at least this one day — March 19, 2008 — we need to create a disturbance in the smug complacency of the IRS/Pentagon money-axis.
I do not and will not fund the machine that is grinding us up. Federal income tax funds from the average working American are used solely to pay the interest on the worthless money that the Federal Reserve, a private bank which is not a Federal institution, creates out of thin air. Put simply, the money you pay in Federal income tax goes into the pockets of the big bankers whom control policy.
The interest charged by the Fed is paid using money created by the Fed and loaned to the government, with interest. This creates a never ending debt, which was exactly the intent when the Federal Reserve Act was passed in 1913.
The Federal Reserve bankers use this money to finance the interests of various parties, such as defense contractors who are in love with the idea of perpetual war, which this administration is more than happy to provide.
You have a conscience. You can choose to stop paying Federal income tax and not support the agendas of a few powerful men who are happily robbing you blind and enslaving you in a system of credit. -- ZDN
A party whore will hug anyone. A dance or a pose, it doesn't go well with the lipstick or the disguise. McCain --the self-styled, 'straight-talking moderate'--dances with radical, Zionist war-mongers and neocons, 'promising' them and the Military/Industrial complex that the US may stay in Iraq for 100, 10,000, possibly '...a million years".
The Mosaic Intelligence Report takes a look back on the last five years of the Iraq war and asks whether the fiasco will go on for another half-decade.

Al-Qaida is in Iraq to stay. It’s not a conclusion the White House talks about much when denouncing the shadowy group, known as al-Qaida in Iraq, that used the U.S. invasion five years ago to develop into a major killer.
"Chevron is profiting at the expense of people you love, who live in this community," Sean O'Brien of Berkeley shouted, shortly before he was arrested, to some 50 helmeted Richmond Police and California Highway Patrol officers who formed a human barricade between the protesters and the refinery.
March 19 marks the 5th Anniversary of Bush's disastrous invasion and occupation of Iraq - yet there is no end in sight. The costs so far are staggering: 4,000 young Americans killed, tens of thousands maimed... 1 million Iraqis killed, millions maimed... $562 billion in tax dollars stolen from our children... $3 trillion cost to our economy through veterans care, weapons replacement, higher oil prices, and the collapsing dollar. All that in just 5 years! We elected a Democratic Congress in 2006 to bring our troops home, but they keep giving Bush blank checks. Incredibly, Congress will soon vote on another $102 billion blank check. On this 5th Anniversary, it is time for everyone who hates this occupation to do something about it. And we're making it as simple and effective as we can. We're calling it a Fax-In. It's like a sit-in, only you can do it from home. Fax an image to Congress that visually expresses how you feel about the endless occupation of Iraq. Do it here:
I watched your actions yesternight on al Jazeera tv. We held a procession in Dhaka.
The country is undergoing a state of emergency promulgated since 11 January,2007 by the US supported military backed unconstitutional government. Therefore, the news was censored in the media...Our 12 activists have been arrested.
Today, Republican presidential candidate John McCain distanced himself from the views of one anti-Catholic leader — John Hagee — while simultaneously seeking the support of another, Tim LaHaye.
Despite all the hundreds of billions of dollars of “liquidity” the central banks have thrown into the system, banks are not lending. Despite the dramatic decrease in short term interest rates engineered by the Fed, long term rates have gone higher and have shut off credit for millions.
On December 7, 2006—the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor—at least eight U.S. attorneys received phone calls from Michael Battle, the executive director of the Office of U.S. Attorneys at the Justice Department. Each was essentially ordered to submit his or her resignation.
The Administration attempted to sell the event as a routine personnel turn-over. But Congress and the public weren’t buying. After a series of hearings at which senior members of the Administration committed acts of perjury, there was a public uproar. In its wake the entire senior echelon of political appointees at the Justice Department were forced to leave office under a cloud and subject to an investigation into potentially criminal misconduct, as were a number of senior White House figures, most prominently including Bush’s senior political advisor, Karl Rove.
Jon Turner, who also served with the Marines in Iraq, said Marines frequently hid this behavior from the US media. "When we had embedded reporters," he stated, "our actions changed drastically. We did everything by the book."
Primary school children should be eligible for the DNA database if they exhibit behaviour indicating they may become criminals in later life, according to Britain's most senior police forensics expert.
McCain's minister, John Hagee, doesn't like Catholics. Is that anybody's business but his parishioners? Obama's minister, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, criticizes white people. Is that anybody's business but his parishioners? I do find it interesting that Hagee's advocacy of Muslim mass murder causes no controversy, while Dr. Wright's dissent on US imperialism causes hysteria.
As U.S. presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain visited Iraq, another five people were killed and 23 were wounded in a new round of violence. No Coalition casualties were reported.
AP: They had chanted, “The war is immoral! Stop funding the war!”—as police officers grabbed them and physically removed them from a visitors gallery overlooking the Senate floor.
The soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 11th US Army Brigade, arrived in the morning. Their mission was clear. "The orders were to shoot anything that moved," one US army officer told journalist Seymour Hersh, the investigative journalist who broke the story in 1969.
This Sunday will mark the fifth anniversary of Vice President Dick Cheney’s disastrous and uninformed prediction that U.S. troops would be greeted as liberators in Iraq
“I hate the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live… I was referring to my prison guards and I will continue to refer to them in language that might offend.”
Personal life
John McCain cheated on his first wife Carol with future wife Cindy Lou Hensley, wealthy heiress and Washington D.C. lobbyist. In 1992, she underwent an intervention for her addiction to prescription opiates. According to Karl Rove, he fathered an illegitimate black child.
Senate Career
A close disciple of Ronald Reagan, John McCain was implicated in the 1989 Keating Five scandal.
Agents of Intolerance
While in 2000, John McCain called Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson “agents of intolerance”, as of 2005 he no longer holds these views, and considered both to be positive forces for progressive change. He has been endorsed by John Hagee, who has referred to the Catholic Church as the Great Whore of Babylyon.
Age and Senility
As he was born in the Panama Canal Zone, is McCain ineligible to be President? No. Stop asking.
John McCain and the media
By all accounts, John McCain’s campaign should have died in the summer of 2007. But, thanks to a steady stream of “the McCain surge is just around the corner” stories (perhaps corresponding to the Iraq surge), eventually even a blind squirrel will come across a nut.
John McCain and the FEC
McCain’s most recent scandal
quote:
The nation’s top federal election official told Sen. John McCain yesterday that he cannot immediately withdraw from the presidential public financing system as he had requested, a decision that threatens to dramatically restrict his spending until the general election campaign begins in the fall.
John Marshall of Duluth, a veteran from the first Gulf War, was exposed to depleted uranium from a friendly fire shell. Seventeen years later, he is completely disabled. Marshall sits in the dining room of his home in Duluth’s Riverside neighborhood with the 19 prescription drugs he has to take to manage pain and deal with the illnesses he believes are side-effects from exposure to depleted uranium.
Despite mountains of scholarly research, enough books to fill a library shelf and decades of political battles about gun control, the Supreme Court will have an opportunity this week that is almost unique for a modern court when it examines whether the District's handgun ban violates the Second Amendment.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Many Trustees are now beginning to realize that no one can take your place as the first line of defense – one of the best kept secrets of the anti-gun movement. When any organization or agency weighs private or corporate property rights against armed self-defense, as many in this examination are, the guns have to win because the Second Amendment is absolute and property rights are not.
Reporter and political pundit Jonathan Alter writes that President Bush’s attempt to kill the New York Times domestic wiretapping story (see December 15, 2005 and December 6, 2005), which the Times delayed for over a year at the White House’s request, is not an attempt to protect national security, as Bush will say in his response to the article (see December 17, 2005), but “because he knew that it would reveal him as a law-breaker.”
Former Nixon White House counsel John Dean considers the newly passed Protect America Act (PAA—see August 5, 2007) a dire threat to American civil liberties.
Historian Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. discusses the parameters of the Bush administration’s push towards a “unified executive” and “imperial presidency” in the Washington Post by quoting Abraham Lincoln’s concerns over pre-emptive war.
In 1991, the Financial Times will report, “[T]here are persistent allegations that slush funds [at the criminal BCCI bank] were used for illegal, covert CIA operations.”
President Ronald Reagan in 1987 and 1988 and President George Bush in 1989 continue to certify that Pakistan does not have a nuclear weapon, a condition of continuing aid to Pakistan under the law (see August 1985).
“The White House found that its best support on the commission came from an unexpected corner—from Lee Hamilton… . Hamilton, they could see, was as much a man of the Washington establishment as he was a Democratic partisan. Probably more so.” This is because Hamilton, a friend of Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, “underst[ands] the prerogatives of the White House - in particular, the concept of executive privilege - in a way that Kean d[oes] not or w[ill] not.”
