The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it. -- Albert Einstein
There's only one candidate that will follow the constitution, give us smaller government, end domestic spying, bring our troops home and get rid of the IRS and the Federal Reserve: Ron Paul!

The financial press, and even the network news shows, have begun reporting the price of gold regularly. For twenty years, between 1980 and 2000, the price of gold was rarely mentioned. There was little interest, and the price was either falling or remaining steady.
Since 2001 however, interest in gold has soared along with its price. With the price now over $1000 an ounce, a lot more people are becoming interested in gold as an investment and an economic indicator. Much can be learned by understanding what the rising dollar price of gold means.
The rise in gold prices from $250 per ounce in 2001 to over $1000 today has drawn investors and speculators into the precious metals market. Though many already have made handsome profits, buying gold per se should not be touted as a good investment. After all, gold earns no interest and its quality never changes. It’s static, and does not grow as sound investments should.
As i know Dr. Paul agrees, we are losing the dollar. This i believe is inevitable because, among other reasons, i don't believe that a fiat currency (money based on nothing) has ever survived and Ron is well aware of this, which is why he wants to get rid of the Federal Reserve (and the IRS) and return to a gold standard. In our case the inevitable bottoming of the dollar is accelerated by the disastrous foreign policy of this administration and the global elite that control them (big bankers for whom perpetual war is a boon). The question is; how will a transition to a new currency occur? Will it be seamless, or will everyone lose everything? I don't know the full answer, but the transition is obviously not without problems. Endless inflation, led by the bankers of the Federal Reserve, and our foreign policy have led to disaster. People are losing their homes; oil prices skyrocket; banks are in big trouble.
It's going to get much worse before it gets better.
Anyone having any investments based on the dollar is already losing big and should be looking for alternatives, one of which is precious metals. No, there is no interest, but that doesn't mean it's a poor investment. Just ask anyone holding collectible coins during the Great Depression. It also holds it's value and is widely accepted as payment of debt. If the worst scenario plays out and the transition to a new currency is as disastrous as it could be, i think people are going to be wishing they had something to buy necessities with because Haliburton stock, mutual funds and CDs aren't going to cut it.
I am being told that the best investment is either low grade collectible silver or gold coins. The reason is that there is a chance the government will call in the bullion in order to back a new currency, as they did before. The company i buy from (MRI) tells me they watch, in particular, all buys over 1 million because these are the people at the top, some of which make policy. In the last couple years or so, MRI says that virtually all of their sales are now low grade collectible gold and silver, where before it was as much bullion as anything else. If true, then this is yet another indicator that the government will call in the bullion. If this happens, gold (and probably silver) bullion will, for all intents, be worthless because you won't be able to sell it and it will be illegal to have (as it was before). Gold bullion was at $25/oz. when it was called in. Shortly after it was revalued to $35/oz.. People still illegally holding bullion lost, while those with collectible coins came out on top. The whole thing was nothing more than a transfer of wealth from the peoples pockets to the pockets of the global elite and everything i've studied tells me the Great Depression and collapsing of the dollar and the banks was engineered for exactly this purpose. Now it is happening again.
There are those that will argue that withdrawing your cash and reinvesting and cutting spending is what is causing the collapse of our economy. It is accelerating it, i'm sure, but it is not causing it. What is happening was inevitable since 1913 when congress gave the power to coin money to private bankers. -- ZDN
The Gaza blockade has not been a one-time event. It started with sanctions on Gaza after the Hamas victory, was ratcheted up by declaring Gaza and enemy territory and strangling its supplies. Only 15 commodities were allowed in after September 17; from 900 trucks coming into Gaza daily, the figure came down to 15. And now we have a total strangulation of Gaza, in which even food and medicines are not allowed in.
"Little kids that are killed, women that are killed, bodies that are decapitated on the side of the road that American convoys are running over - these are things that are not on the news. These are things politicians aren't talking about. These are things that the American people don't know about,"
WTP Chairman Bob Schulz is interviewed in Concord, MA about the profound power of the First Amendment Right to Petition the government for Redress of Grievances. The little-known history and power of the "capstone Right" goes back 800 years to Magna Carta. Imagine the following - the nation Martin Luther King called "The Greatest Purveyor of Violence in the World Today" may brand democratic Venezuela a state sponsor of terrorism if extremist lawmakers on the Hill get their way.
Reeling from the blow that it received in the aftermath of the Colombian military's illegal incursion on March 1 into Ecuador — which resulted in the brutal massacre of a number of civilians and members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), including its chief negotiator Raul Reyes — US imperialism has once again raised the ante in its struggle to undermine the growing process of Latin American integration.
Well, guys, it looks like the Plunge Protection Team is out in force this morning, as we knew they would be. As I sign off, the Dow isn’t even down 1%. HAHA. The Dollar is off its lows. Gold came down a bit. In other words, the jugglers are managing to keep several chainsaws in the air. One slipped and decapitated Bear Stearns, but what the hell, the show must go on!
As feared, foreign bond holders have begun to exercise a collective vote of no confidence in the devaluation policies of the US government. The Federal Reserve faces a potential veto of its rescue measures.
The markets responded negatively to the purchase of Bear Stearns over the weekend by JPMorgan Chase. The acquisition, backed by the Federal Reserve, underscored the severity of the credit crisis in the United States and the weakness of the American economy.
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Acting quickly to prevent a run on major global financial firms, the Federal Reserve cut its discount rate by a quarter percentage point to 3.25% and offered to lend money to a longer list of firms than ever before.
TOKYO (AP) -- The dollar nose-dived to its lowest levels in 12 1/2 years Monday in Asia, falling below 96 yen as the Federal Reserve's rate cut failed to calm market fears about more U.S. bank writedowns.
Pity America's poor civil libertarians. In recent weeks, the papers have been full of stories about the warehousing of information on Americans by the National Security Agency, the interception of financial information by the CIA, the stripping of authority from a civilian intelligence oversight board by the White House, and the compilation of suspicious activity reports from banks by the Treasury Department. On Thursday, Justice Department Inspector General Glenn Fine released a report documenting continuing misuse of Patriot Act powers by the FBI. And to judge from the reaction in the country, nobody cares.
Editor's Note: Keep in mind when reading this article by Greenspan, that he created this financial crisis with his own monetary policies in the early part of this decade. The fact that he has the nerve to write something this is laughable.
William Leonard, who led the Information Security Oversight Office until last year, and his predecessor, Steven Garfinkel, were listed Friday on the docket of the U.S. Court for the Eastern District of Virginia as among eight expert defense witnesses in the case against Steve Rosen, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's former foreign policy chief, and Keith Weissman, its former Iran analyst.
Too many Americans still have adolescent views of sex and marriage.
Europeans, by contrast, shrug off men's need to stray as normal and acceptable, provided it is done discreetly. Powerful, busy men such as Spitzer who have no time to court and romance women resort to prostitutes for simple physical release.
However ruthless, self-serving and hypocritical Spitzer was about prostitution, he was doing one good thing: Going after Wall Street's crooks and fraudsters largely responsible for the current financial crisis.
As we approach the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, hundreds of US veterans of the war say the American military has been covering up widespread civilian killings in that country.

On March 19, 2008, we will set up a nonviolent blockade of the national Internal Revenue Service headquarters in Washington, DC, as part of the day of actions against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Just as military recruiters supply the bodies for the war, the IRS supplies the funding. Just as some soldiers have the courage to resist the war, we — as tax payers — should have the courage to resist paying the taxes that send soldiers to war. We call on all war opponents to help dramatize our opposition and to disrupt business as usual by joining this nonviolent blockade.
For at least this one day — March 19, 2008 — we need to create a disturbance in the smug complacency of the IRS/Pentagon money-axis.
“…However, in Governor Spitzer’s case he got humiliated, disgraced and then the voters lost the guy they voted for. It is deeply scary to me that a few employees of the federal executive branch can start a train rolling that has such immense effects on the electoral process. Basically a few career civil servants have nullified the will of the voters of the Empire state, over something clearly wrong, I don’t doubt that, but it’s not a political crime, not treason, not terrorism…”
Former head of the Iraqi Provisional Government and Neo-Con Apologist L. Paul Bremer comes on Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer on the fifth anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq to admit, that yes, mistakes were made (and gosh, he had made recommendations that were ignored over assumptions that turned out to be false)…blah blah blah, but even still, he doesn’t think they would have done anything differently in retrospect.
We thought John McCain might want something to listen to as he chucks his principles out of the bathroom window of the Straight Talk Express each time he capitulates to some figurehead of the religious right or hires one of the people who slandered him in 2000 to advise his campaign.
Maybe the McSurge Triplets will get to go on another shopping spree and find more great bargains while they’re in Baghdad? Oh wait — they can’t go back to the same market they visited last year because that area of the city is now too dangerous.
According to a pool report of comments made by a senior administration official who was flying with Mr. Cheney, the vice president plans, among other things, to push Iraqi officials to pass petroleum legislation that would help bring international oil companies to Iraq.
Five rears after the invasion of Iraq the US and the Iraqi government both claim that Iraq is becoming a less dangerous place, but the measures taken to protect Mr. Maliki told a different story. Gun-waving soldiers first cleared all traffic from the streets. Then four black armored cars, each with three machine gunners on the roof, raced out of a heavily fortified exit from the Green Zone, followed by sand-colored American Humvees and more armored cars. Finally, in the middle of the speeding convoy, we saw six identical bullet proof vehicles with black windows, one of which must have carried Mr. Maliki.
Imagine, for a moment, that you live in a small town somewhere near the Southern California coast. You're going about your daily life, trying to scrape by in hard times, when the missile hits.
The TrueMajority.org "IranMobile", a Dr. Strangelovian thermonuclear missle/bomb that rises for launch 20 feet in the air with George W. Citizen activists will provide written materials and encourage discussion of the U.S. policy of aggressive war that was born 5 years ago this week.
BAGHDAD — Iraq's most prominent clerics have ruled that using a water pump on one's own pipes is akin to stealing resources from a neighbor, so what does a person do when it takes half an hour to fill a cooking pot with water from the tap?
The Chinook salmon that swim upstream to spawn in the fall, the most robust run in the Sacramento River, have disappeared. The almost complete collapse of the richest and most dependable source of Chinook salmon south of Alaska left gloomy fisheries experts struggling for reliable explanations — and coming up dry.
Marine Matt Howard said the USMC “bases itself on subjugation and abuse” of lower-ranking enlisted personnel. “I was beaten and then I was kicked out of my platoon for being beaten,” he said. A majority of the casualties in Iraq “are from friendly fire.” He was at the front in Kuwait the day the invasion began in March 2003, he said. The first M-1 Abrams tank to cross into Iraq was strafed and destroyed by a U.S. helicopter gunship firing rockets armed with depleted uranium. Luckily, the American soldiers escaped. “Why are we using these weapons,” he demanded. “We’re poisoning the soldiers. We’re poisoning Iraq. We’re poisoning the world. Depleted uranium is the Agent Orange of the Iraq war.”
The scary truth dawned on the markets-The liquidity crisis that has been taking a toll on the financial markets for about a year now is more severe than even the pessimists had imagined.
“Our economy is in crisis after years of failed Bush Administration policies that Sen. McCain supports and has adopted as his own,” Ackerman said. “Sen. McCain’s record shows he’s in lockstep with President Bush on economic issues. He’s voted repeatedly for trade deals that ship our jobs overseas, he’s voted against protecting overtime pay, he’s voted against health insurance for children, and he supports the Bush Social Security privatization plan. McCain is Bush No. 3.”
As U.S. presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain visited Iraq, another 21 people were killed and 29 were wounded in a new round of violence. No Coalition casualties were reported.
The U.S. and Europe continue to insist that Iran end its uranium enrichment program, which they claim is part of an Iranian plan to develop an atomic bomb. They have persuaded the Security Council of the United Nations to join in this demand. Iran refuses to give up enrichment. The fact is that Iran is acting within its rights. It is entitled under the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to pursue enrichment of uranium. The NPT requires that member countries cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), whose task it is to see to it that their nuclear projects are used for peaceful purposes only. Iran does so, and the IAEA has repeatedly stated that it has found no evidence that Iran is developing a nuclear weapon. There is thus no legal basis for instituting sanctions against Iran, as the Security Council has done – let alone for tightening these sanctions or taking military action against Iran.
CARACAS (AFP) - Venezuelan state oil giant PDVSA has decided to sign some oil contracts in euros in the face of a plummeting dollar, local media reported, citing officials.
Hundreds of Israeli troops, backed up by armored carriers, raided the Islamic Charitable Society in downtown Hebron earlier this week , vandalizing property and looting hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of food materials, clothes, shoes and furniture donated by local and foreign donors for the benefit of the orphans.
