The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it. -- Albert Einstein
If you are new to the issue of the legality of the Federal income tax, or want to learn more about how it came about, how bankers control policy and where your tax dollars really go, then the following video is required viewing. -- ZDN
Rick Ungar's charter fishing service promises a great time on Lake Erie. But there's a catch — and it's not freshwater fish. It's the Homeland Security Department's new anti-terrorism rules.
The woman — armed with a military weapon of her day and brandishing her sword of authority — personifies “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” to secure a “free State.”
No doubt the dethroned ruler lying underfoot regretted his failure to disarm the lady of her spear, to the “reasonable” end of preserving the public safety. Indeed, had King George III acted more quickly to control the American colonists’ muskets, blunderbusses, and other weapons suitable to resist the English military, there would be no United States of America.
The scientist was called to measure data in various places, but one in particular, the Khaim crater, showed measurements of uranium in the bottom of the crater fourteen times higher than the measurements on the edges.
Consider that in the previous month, there was a spike in violence, explosions, and casualties in Iraq, yet McCain barely seemed to notice. Now, since he left Iraq, another "surge" in killings is going on, yet he remains sunny about the whole thing.
At least 140 Iraqis were killed and 228 were wounded across Iraq. These casualty figures may include updated numbers from previous days of fighting in the Mahdi Army clashes. Still, a significant number of people were killed or injured since yesterday, including a several PKK separatists near the Turkish border. No Coalition deaths were reported, but Coalition troops killed a number of people during air strikes.
At least 163 Iraqis were killed and 214 were wounded in the latest reports of violence. These figures included updated numbers from the Mahdi Army battles taking place since Tuesday. Fighting appears to be subsiding in Baghdad, but the Mahdi Army has expanded its control in Basra. One American soldier was died after an IED attack south of Baghdad today. Meanwhile U.S. forces were dragged deeper into the fighting across Iraq. British troops have remained uninvolved, even in Basra where they are stationed. Also, the situation for civilians in Basra and Sadr City is becoming desperate as food and water supplies dwindle.
6. "Everybody says that they're against the special interests. I'm the only one the special interests don't give any money to."
Here are some examples of Sen. McCain's epic battle with special-interest money: According to the Center for Responsive Politics, McCain has taken nearly $1.2 million in campaign contributions from the telephone utility and telecom service industries, more than any other senator. McCain sides with the telecom companies on retroactive immunity.
McCain is also the single largest recipient of campaign contributions from Ion Media Networks -- formerly Paxson Communication -- receiving $36,000 from the company and employees from 1997 to mid-year 2006.
The ruling came after the European Union had banned the use of certain growth-promoting hormones used by the US and Canada without a scientific assessment of the risk.
Let's start with temperatures – 1,340° F. temperatures, recorded in thermal images of the surface of the World Trade Center rubble pile a week after 9/11 by NASA's AVIRIS equipment on USGS overflights. Such temperatures cannot be achieved by oxygen-starved hydrocarbon fires. Such fires burn at only 600 to 800° F. Remember, there was no fire on the top of the pile. The source of this incredible heat was therefore below the surface of the rubble, where it must have been far hotter than 1,340 degrees.
Mark Loizeaux, president of Controlled Demolition, Inc., who was hired for the Building 7 cleanup, said that "molten steel was found at 7 WTC." Leslie Robertson, World Trade Center structural engineer, stated that on October 5, "21 days after the attacks, the fires were still burning and molten steel was still running." Fire department personnel, recorded on video, reported seeing "molten steel running down the channel rails… like you're in a foundry – like lava from a volcano." Joe O'Toole, a Bronx firefighter, saw a crane lifting a steel beam vertically from deep within a pile. He said "it was dripping from the molten steel." Bart Voorsanger, an architect hired to save "relics from the rubble," stated about the multi-ton "meteorite" that it was a "fused element of molten steel and concrete."
The knowledge that this evidence even exists was denied by one of your top engineers, John Gross, in his appearance at the University of Texas in April of this year.
Steel melts at about 2,850 degrees Fahrenheit, about twice the temperature of the World Trade Center Tower 1 and 2 fires as estimated by NIST. So what melted the steel?
On March 17, New York Senator and Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton gave a speech at George Washington University outlining her plans to de-escalate U.S. military involvement in Iraq. Though she called for the gradual withdrawal of U.S. combat brigades over the next several years, she continued to refuse to apologize for her 2002 vote authorizing the invasion, to acknowledge the illegality of the war, or to fully explain her false claims made at that time regarding Iraq's military capabilities and alleged ties to al-Qaeda. Nor was she able to offer an explanation as to what led to her dramatic shift from a supporter of the ongoing war and occupation as recently as a year and a half ago to her current more critical perspective.
A resident of Germany who was imprisoned for two months at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan has told an interviewer that his interrogators hung him from a ceiling for five days and that several doctors periodically checked him before authorizing the torture to continue.
We know that 96 percent of the Americans killed in Iraq have died since Bush boasted that our mission was accomplished and we know with sickening assurance that we have hit the hideous milestone of 4,000 of our own dead in the Bush administration’s war of choice.
London: In an embarrassing turn-around, the British government has admitted “substantial breaches” of the European Convention on Human Rights over the treatment of Iraqi civilians held by its soldiers resulting in the death of a hotel worker in Basra in 2003.
The U.S. Treasury Department will propose on Monday that the Federal Reserve be given sweeping new powers that would make it chief regulator with authority to require actions to ensure market stability.
The reason for his apparent switch of sides was simple: the 36-year-old was already a member of the al-Mahdi Army which, like other militias, has massively infiltrated the British-trained police force in the southern oil city. He claimed that hundreds of others from the 16,000-strong force have also defected to the rebels’ ranks.Abu Iman joined the new Iraqi police force after the invasion, joining the Mugawil, a special police unit infamous for brutality, kidnapping and sectarian murders.
A new BBC documentary supports the conclusion that the CIA planned and executed the assassination of Robert Kennedy. The new video and photographic evidence -- the result of a three year long investigation --"puts three senior CIA operatives" at the scene of the murder.

Dear Mr. Diehl,
Over the past several years, we have informed you of our concerns regarding the hostile, distorted and inaccurate coverage of Venezuela in your newspaper, and particularly on the Editorial Page.
The Iraq War was based on a series of lies, just as the Vietnam War was based on a series of lies (the USS Maddox and USS Turner Joy incidents in the South China Sea which gave rise to the Gulf of Tonkin resolution). John McCain has not learned the lessons he should have learned from the lies of the Vietnam War. He, more than any other Senator, should have seen through the lies of the Bush Administration about Iraq, the non-existent Weapons of Mass Destruction and non-existent links between Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda.
Hooray for Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides at Wired Science for gathering some staggering numbers for us about the war in the wake of our 4,000th casualty. She makes the link between our current financial situation and the Iraq War. Because she relied on official statistics only, she can not report on the number of Iraqi dead (since the US doesn't keep records on that) or on the extent to which we are in debt because of the war (because many of those numbers are hidden).
An off-duty San Diego cop shoots a woman and her eight-year-old son in a parking lot after a traffic dispute. She was hit twice in the arm and the boy once in the leg. There were at least five shots fired – four bullet holes found in her windshield and one in the passenger window.
Larry A. Silverstein, who has won nearly $4.6 billion in insurance payments to cover his losses and help him rebuild at the World Trade Center site, is seeking $12.3 billion in damages from airlines and airport security companies for the 9/11 attack.
The Project for the New American Century, or PNAC, is a Washington-based think tank created in 1997. Above all else, PNAC desires and demands one thing: The establishment of a global American empire to bend the will of all nations.
In a place just a few miles from sandy beaches and soaring sky-scrapers, white stone villas and sky-blue swimming pools, it seems the epitome of irony and injustice that over 1.5 million people would be subjected to drinking sewage-contaminated water. When there is such a fine line bordering wealth and poverty, privilege and need, how unsettling to realize that just a stones throw away, mothers and fathers must nourish their families with poison. As if the occupier could not find one more creative way to torment his victim.
By his own admission, John McCain is breaking the law. His latest spending report has him $4 million over the limit he imposed on himself when he accepted public financing.
We're not about to let this stand, so on Tuesday we filed an FEC complaint against the McCain campaign (check out the video of delivery to the right). Now we're set for a second larger delivery of 30,000 signatures of Americans who won't stand by while John McCain breaks the law.
The case in question is that of Rick Stanley, a respected and successful Denver family businessman, libertarian, former candidate for U.S. Senate, activist, Second Amendment advocate, tireless patriot organizer and beloved father and husband. Because Rick, in all his activities, made one statement, however ill-advised, the system descended upon him with a lawless vengeance and then kangarooed him into prison for six years.
