The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it. -- Albert Einstein
Obama says America is ready for change. Implementing the Global Poverty Act (S.2433) which Obama has sponsored will certainly bring about change, — but I believe that most Americans will be dismayed when they discover the kind of changes he was really talking about.
The U.S. would be required to surrender some of its sovereignty over foreign aid by putting it under UN control. The bill would force the U.S. to sign onto the U.N.’s Millennium Declaration, which would commit us not only to "banning small arms and light weapons" but also to adhere to the International Criminal Court Treaty and the Kyoto Protocol.
NEW YORK (AP) - Gas prices jumped nearly 3 cents overnight to a new national record of nearly $3.65 a gallon Thursday, while oil prices paused from their own climb to record highs and succumbed to mild profit-taking.
* Bush, Cheney and all other key officials refused to testify under oath, and Bush and Cheney would not even speak to the 9/11 Commission unless they did so together
* The 9/11 Commission admits that the U.S. military intentionally lied about what happened that day, the Commission reached conclusions based on political considerations, and that its conclusions were largely based on third-hand information conveyed through military spokespeople about what severley tortured, crazy people supposedly said
* NIST admits "We are unable to provide a full explanation of the total collapse"
* FEMA admits that its best hypothesis for why WTC 7 collapsed has only "a low probability of occurring"
It is not very reassuring when the professional whitewashers tasked with defending the government's version of what happened on 9/11 themselves willing to swear to that version.
WASHINGTON — The deaths of two U.S. soldiers in western Baghdad last week have sparked concerns that Iraqi insurgents have developed a new weapon capable of striking what the U.S. military considers its most explosive-resistant vehicle.
The Iraqi government and Mahdi army sources have apparently reached an agreement to suspend fighting in Baghdad's Sadr City suburb; however, the U.S. military continued air strikes. At least 50 Iraqis were killed and 147 were injured in the latest attacks. Also, one American soldier died of non-combat injuries yesterday and a second soldier died in a vehicular accident in Anbar.
Casualties in Sadr City have tapered off as the truce between the Iraqi government and Shi'ite militiamen appears to be holding. Still, at least 36 Iraqis were killed and 36 more were wounded in violence across Iraq. Meanwhile, Turkey launched air and artillery attacks into northern Iraq. No Coalition deaths were reported.

There is considerable speculation and buzz in Washington today suggesting that the National Security Council has agreed in principle to proceed with plans to attack an Iranian al-Qods-run camp that is believed to be training Iraqi militants.
The U.S. is mulling over the idea of turning Baghdad's "Green Zone" enclave into a billion-dollar luxury zone, complete with high-end shopping and five-star hotels. Sam Brannen, a fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and former Defense Department policy planner, has another idea: "abando[n] the Green Zone and donat[e] the monstrous embassy just completed" to the Iraqi people.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Increasing numbers of U.S. troops have left the military with damaged bodies and minds, an ever-larger pool of disabled veterans that will cost the nation billions for decades to come - even as the total population of America's vets shrinks.
If cruelty is no longer declared unlawful, but instead is applied as a matter of policy, it alters the fundamental relationship of man to government. It destroys the whole notion of individual rights. The Constitution recognizes that man has an inherent right, not bestowed by the state or laws, to personal dignity, including the right to be free of cruelty. It applies to all human beings, not just in America -- even those designated as 'unlawful enemy combatants.' If you make this exception the whole Constitution crumbles.
Billionaire California bond manager Bill Gross calls it "a haute con job." Bloomberg News columnist John Wasik describes it as "a testament to the art of economic spin." More and more shoppers and consumer simply disbelieve it.
Gaza receives its fuel supplies from Israel, which has severely limited shipments to pressure Palestinian resistance fighters who are active in the area.
A few days ago we reported that Barack Obama was ever so proud to have visited all "57 states" on his campaign swing. But, we noticed that he still avoids wearing that U.S. flag lapel pin, just the same. Well, we have finally found out why Barack Obama won't wear that darned ol' U.S. flag pin. Until now he couldn't find one with all "57 States" on it. Well, the folks over at Suitably Flip blog have solved the problem for the junior Senator from Illinois.
No one could have predicted that Chalabi's group, the Iraqi National Congress (INC), would go on to push false stories about terror and weapons of mass destruction with such great success as the group campaigned against Saddam Hussein's quite sadistic regime.
With the prospect of a U.S. military strike on Iran looming, America's third largest city will decide next week whether to take a stand on this volatile international situation.
On December 4, our chapter's work with the Sonoma County Resolution to Impeach Coalition paid off when the Santa Rosa City Council passed our resolution petitioning Congress to begin impeachment proceedings against George W. Bush and Richard Cheney.
I've done no survey. There are probably a heck of a lot more candidates out there who haven't contacted me or I haven't happened to run across. But I have put together a list, thus far, of 111 candidates for Congress, the Senate, or the White House who support impeaching Bush and Cheney. Here's the list, organized by office and by state / district:
There was something interesting missing from Maj. Gen. Kevin Bergner’s introductory remarks to journalists at his regular news briefing in Baghdad on Wednesday: the word “Iran,” or any form of it.
In August 2006 the 10th Mountain Division, 2nd BCT, 1-89 Cavalry was sent to Iraq for 12 months. In April 2007, the troops were told the Army was adding three additional months to their time in country.
In November 2007 the troopers of 1-89 arrived back in New York from their tour. They are now being told by the IRS, via the IRS Web site, that they haven’t earned enough money to qualify for the economic stimulus check.
John McCain made a point of saying at a Hollywood party that he didn’t vote for George Bush. Now honestly, considering what the Bush campaign did to him in 2000, I don’t blame him. The problem is that he denies it now and says he did vote for Bush. That makes him a liar.
